Kiyomitsu Odai is a composer/piano improviser born and brought up in Tokyo, Japan. After receiving B. A. in law from Waseda University in Tokyo, he moved to Chicago, where he studied music composition with Don Malone and piano with Dmitry Rachmanov in Chicago College of Performing Arts, Roosevelt University. In Chicago, as a composer, he worked mainly on algorithmic compositions for electronics, chamber ensemble, and orchestra; as a piano improviser, he performed in various venues including Hotti Biscotti, Underground Lounge, and Buddy Gallery, and he also performed for the airplay at WNUR, the radio station in Northwestern University. In 2006, Kiyomitsu graduated with honor and received B. M. in composition from Roosevelt University, and he began to study in M. A. composition program at Mills College.
